On December 8, I wrote about how a memorandum from United States President Donald Trump to Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Acting Director Jim O’Neill could lead to the removal of several types of shots from the US government’s childhood vaccine schedule.
In particular, vaccines to be considered for potential removal were those not included in the similar recommendations of “peer, developed countries” such as Germany, Japan, and Denmark.
Here is an update. On Monday, HHS announced the removal of six vaccines from the childhood vaccine schedule, resulting the number of vaccines in the schedule being reduced to 11. The change, HHS explained in a Monday press release, was supported by the review directed by Trump’s memorandum.
