Florida Surgeon General Announces Plan to End All Vaccine Mandates in the State

by | Sep 4, 2025

In July, the American Academy of Pediatrics, which was recently criticized by United States Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. for its major financial backing from and cozy relationship with Big Pharma, launched an effort urging state and local governments to eliminate virtually all exemptions parents can claim to protect their children from the plethora of vaccine shots required for attendance at school or daycare. On Wednesday, Florida State Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo announced in a speech at an event where he shared the stage with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis the commencement of an effort backed by Ladapo and DeSantis to take the opposite course of action — eliminate all vaccine mandates in the state.

“The Florida Department of Health,” of which Ladapo is in charge, “in partnership with the governor is going to be working to end all vaccine mandates in Florida law — all of them, all of them, all of them, every last one of them,” declared Ladapo. “Every last one of them is wrong and drips with disdain and slavery,” Ladapo continued. Further, Ladapo insisted that government has no right to tell people what to put in their own bodies or in the bodies of their children. “A moral, ethical universe,” elaborated Ladapo, is one in which people can make their own informed decisions about whether or not to take vaccines, instead of being subjected to government mandates concerning the matter.

The process of eliminating the vaccine mandates in the state, Ladapo said in his announcement, begins with the Florida Department of Health promptly revoking its rules involving the mandating of “maybe half a dozen vaccines.” Then, he said “we’ll be working with our amazing Governor DeSantis and our wonderful lawmakers to get rid of the rest of it.” “It’ll be wonderful for Florida to be the first state” to abolish vaccine mandates, Ladapo concluded.

Ladapo, in his announcement Wednesday regarding vaccine mandates, followed through in a very significant way on the commitment to freedom Ladapo expressed in September of 2021 upon DeSantis appointing him to be the state’s surgeon general and health department leader.
