Ron Paul: ‘Remain Vigilant’ Regarding Trump Administration

Paul starts off the interview noting that he generally has been disappointed by government growth over the decades since the 1970s when Paul was first elected to the United States House of Representatives. Paul says he held out the most optimism for the Reagan years that ended, Paul laments, with continued big spending and an increased US government presence around the world.
Regarding what will happen with the Trump administration, Paul says that he is both “keeping his fingers crossed” and hearing “mixed signals.” “We need, Alex, to remain vigilant, and be careful, and call things as we see them,” concludes Paul in regard to the Trump administration.
In the wide-ranging interview, Paul focuses much on his concerns regarding what the Trump administration’s foreign policy may be. In particular, Paul points to Trump’s advocacy for eradicating “radical Islam,” increasing military spending, and threatening China as suggesting the Trump administration will support expansive intervention overseas.
Referencing seven countries that the US has been bombing during the Obama administration, Paul provides a metric for judging the Trump administration in regard to intervention abroad. Says Paul, “If in a year from now we’re in a lot less than seven countries, then I am going to say ‘great, move on.’”
