Judge Napolitano: Bundy Ranch Protestors’ Line in the Sand Stops Thieving Feds

by | Apr 15, 2014

Judge Andrew Napolitano, speaking Monday with Stuart Varney on Fox Business, explains the significance of the United States government backing off its raid of the Bundy ranch in Nevada after “suffering such a terrible PR loss” from its confrontation with protestors, explaining:

And the resistance that they got, made it sound like, ‘Enough is enough with the federal government, we are drawing a line in the sand right here’. And it drew people from all around the country who basically said to the feds, ‘Quit your heavy-handed theft of property, and act like you are a normal litigant and not God Almighty.’

Napolitano, an RPI Advisory Board member, argues that Nevada officials should have arrested people involved in the raid of the Bundy ranch and the stealing of the ranch’s cattle.

Napolitano also terms the 25 yards by 25 yards “First Amendment zone” three miles from the US government’s activities “utterly repellent in America.” Napolitano elaborates that “this is the federal government emasculating the First Amendment rights of the protestors” irrespective of the argument Varney poses that speech restraints could be justified by the fact that some protestors carried guns.

Yet, the victory against the US government’s raiders may not last long. US Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, who serves in the Senate as a Democrat from Nevada, commented Monday regarding the Bundy ranch situation:

Well, it’s not over. We can’t have an American people that violate the law and then just walk away from it. So it’s not over.

In making this statement, Reid reinforces a warning writer William Norman Grigg issued a day earlier. Grigg, who has masterfully placed the Bundy raid in context, warns:

Like any bully, the Regime in Washington chooses its battles carefully, generally avoiding fights with opponents capable of fighting back. But it will not accept defeat when clearly in the wrong. This is something Nevada rancher Cliven Bundy and his supporters should remember.
