America’s Founders were very explicit on how our relationships with foreign nations should be conducted.
George Washington: “It is our true policy to steer clear of permanent alliances with any portion of the foreign world…” Thomas Jefferson: “peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations—entangling alliances with none.” John Quincy Adams: “America… goes not abroad, in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all.”
We’re all familiar with the saying “By their fruits, ye shall know them.” Well, we are several centuries away from America’s Founders, and our nation has ignored their wise advice. The fruits of ignoring them are rotten to the core.
We now stand at the edge of total bankruptcy, with a Trump Administration and @DOGE feverishly trying to salvage the damage that has been done. All because America refused to mind its own business. The 100 year-old fixation of entrenching ourselves in the affairs of other nations left the door wide open for internal rot to take hold.
When your focus is outward, the inward falls to pieces. Bridges collapse, planes get into accidents, cities are destroyed, and morality descends into the sewer. Waste and fraud become the way of life. “Public servants” help themselves to the public’s money.
DOGE is exposing the waste and fraud, but they haven’t even scratched the surface. The biggest (and most indebted) government in the history of the world cannot be exposed in just a couple of weeks. I’m sure even DOGE cannot fathom what is still waiting for them.
America has approximately 1,000 military bases sprawled all over the planet. That’s the extreme that we have reached.
Our president is expected to have an opinion on the goings-on of every nation. Why? He’s the President of The United States, elected by the American people. He’s not “The President of The World.” Yet, a decent number of Americans will rabidly reply “Oh yes he is the President of The World!”
So the problem is not simply located in the halls of government alone. Much of the public has bought in.
Why would we even burden President Trump with such an impossible task? Does he not have the same number of ticks of the clock that the rest of us have? Is the United States not a big enough problem for The President of The United States? Do we not have enough to put on his plate?
The reality is, our problems are so massive that they’re ready to completely overwhelm and consume us. Our American ancestors would never have dared to say that George Washington was the “The President of The World.” Because our ancestors had the correct mentality of ‘staying in their own lane,’ the results that they produced were magnificent. Their America ended up producing a prosperity, the likes of which had never been seen before.
But prosperity comes with caveats. It can go to your head. You can easily start to think you’re something that you’re not. Prosperity can sucker you into thinking that YOU are tasked with remaking the world in your own image! That was the road taken at the beginning of the 1900’s, and we have 1,000 military bases to prove it.
Another Founder, James Madison, said: “No nation could preserve its freedom in the midst of continual warfare.” We ignored him too. And now here we are, broke and trying to dig ourselves out of the abyss.
As we dig ourselves out, all of the entrenched interests are lined up against it, fighting to preserve the status quo…fighting to make sure that America remains the busybody of the world.
$1 TRILLION is siphoned from the American people PER YEAR (!) for the warfare state. There’s no way that the entrenched military-industrial-complex wants to see that bonanza come to an end. The irony of it all is that we Americans truly have been blessed. We have two massive oceans that protect us from harm. Do you know how many nations wished they had two massive oceans to protect them? Their enemies are very often right next door. But we were the lucky ones to win the geographic lottery; and we blew it!
We have been trained to be afraid of our own shadows; and that fear costs us $1 TRILLION per year! No invasions have occurred in our history, with the exception of the invasion that our own government facilitated by opening our borders!
We were not destroyed from without; but from within.
The good news is, people can change. We are not robots doomed to a preprogrammed fate. The bad news is, change hurts…bad. Change means swallowing your pride. The vision of our Founders can be revived. But it’s going to take a will that has not existed for over 100 years in America. The temptation for more war, and more entanglements will constantly be dangled in front of us. “We have to intervene over there! We just have to!” But if we bite, we’re dead meat.
The Good Lord gives everyone (and every nation) a chance to amend their ways. But the slack that He provides is not an infinite slack. The focus of America should be on rebuilding and setting a good example for other nations to emulate. We wish other nations well. But the idea of “standing” with other nations and handing out “foreign aid” must be buried in the past. It must be buried as something that nearly buried us.
