In November, I wrote about Dennis Kucinich considering running for the office of Mayor of Cleveland, Ohio, a position he last held in the 1970s. While Kucinich has not yet officially launched a campaign, a new poll places Kucinich in first place among nine candidates.

Tyler Carey provides details in a Friday WKYC-TV article:

The first known poll asking potential voters about the upcoming Cleveland mayoral election has been released, and for the moment, the front-runners are the ones with the most name recognition.

In a survey conducted by Baldwin Wallace University’s Community Research Institute, former Cleveland Mayor and Northeast Ohio U.S. Rep. Dennis Kucinich led the large field of candidates with 17.8 percent of the vote. In a strong second place, Ward 7 City Councilman Basheer Jones with 13.3 percent, the only other potential candidate to crack double digits.

The first votes in the race will take place in less than three months. Carey relates, “The mayoral primary is scheduled for Aug. 3, with the top two vote-getters moving on to the general election on Nov. 2.”

Kucinich is an Advisory Board member for the Ron Paul Institute for Peace and Prosperity.
