In his column last week, Ron Paul discussed the threat in America from corporatism, “where power remains nominally in private hands but the government gains significant control.” Movement toward corporatism, Paul’s editorial asserted, is evidenced by the United States government during the administration of President Donald Trump proceeding to amass ownership interests in a growing list of companies. Paul judged this policy pursued by Trump as “dangerous to liberty and prosperity.”
This week, a poll indicates that Paul is far from the only American worried about the US government’s new focus on obtaining ownership interests in companies. Reporting Monday at CNBC on a CNBC poll conducted earlier this month, Matt Peterson wrote that “only 19% of voters say it is appropriate for the federal government to own a portion of U.S.-based companies, while 49% say it isn’t.”
