The United States government has over the last couple years provided weapons hand over fist to support the Israel government in it bringing a great amount of death and destruction to Gaza. In answer to a reporter’s question Tuesday at the White House, Trump suggested the US government may soon take things to the next level — directly engaging in war in Gaza.
“How long will it take Hamas to disarm, and can you guarantee that is going to happen,” asked a reporter. In answering the question, Trump declared three times, “if they don’t disarm, we will disarm them.” Trump also stated once a slightly different version of “they will disarm, or we will disarm them.” This repetition of a clear message seems not to be a slip of the tongue. Rather, it appears to be a resolute statement of policy from the president.
Making clear that his repeated promise of action against Hamas involves potentially the use of force, Trump further commented in his answer that the disarming of Hamas “will happen quickly and perhaps violently.” Then, in answering a follow-up question, Trump stated that Hamas disarmament must take place in “a reasonable period of time, pretty quickly, a reasonable period of time.”
