Trump To Leave 1,000 Troops In Syria? What’s The Strategy?

Over the weekend the Wall Street Journal reported that the Trump Administration had decided to keep 1,000 US military personnel stationed (illegally) in Syria, even though just three months ago the president said he would be bringing home all US troops in the country. That was followed by an announcement that 200, then 400, would remain. What’s the point of the US occupation of part of Syria – especially now that al-Qaeda/ISIS is defeated?
