Daddy Warbucks Seeks President

Much is made of money in politics and how the process is shaped by big donors. While RPI does not concern itself with politics or elections, there is a disturbing related phenomenon that does indeed concern our mission: big money purchasing war.

Take casino magnate Sheldon Adelson, for example. As Pat Buchanan points out today, the pro-war billionaire snapped his fingers last week and potential Republican presidential candidates came running to his self-styled "Sheldon" primary. Their purpose was to out-compete each other on Adelson's favorite issues so as to curry favor and thereby earn his millions for their campaign coffers. And Adelson's biggest issue is not even in the US -- it's Israel.

How Dare They Invite Iran to The Syria Peace Conference!

UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon had the temerity Monday to invite Iran to participate in the "Geneva II" conference on the ongoing crisis in Syria. Though one might believe Iran has a legitimate interest in a conflict right in its neighborhood, the US refused to allow Iran to participate unless its leadership agreed to the pre-condition that Assad must be driven from power. For the US, the result of the conference must be decided before the conference commences. It is Queen of Hearts diplomacy: sentence first, verdict afterward!

Mexico was invited to participate, but Iran, whose border with Syria is some 100 miles away, was forbidden by the US from attending.

So Monday's unexpected invitation from Ban Ki Moon to Iran sent shockwaves through Foggy Bottom.

Eric Cantor Lies About the Iran Deal

Infuriated by the surprise agreement between the P5+1 countries and Iran on the first round of confidence-building measures, House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-VA) has taken to out and out falsification to trash-talk the deal. And he lets loose with a couple of whoppers.

In a press release yesterday, Cantor wrote:
The text of the interim agreement with Iran explicitly and dangerously recognizes that Iran will be allowed to enrich uranium when it describes a 'mutually defined enrichment program' in a final, comprehensive deal. It is clear why the Iranians are claiming this deal recognizes their right to enrich.

Wendy Sherman Should Be Fired

Wendy Sherman is Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs and the senior U.S. representative in the P5+1 nuclear talks with Iran.

She told the U.S. Senate about the Iranians: “We know that deception is part of the DNA.” For that alone, she should be fired. There is absolutely no place for a person who is leading negotiations with Iran to insult the Iranian side and Iran’s people with such a despicable slur, akin to what a Nazi might utter.

Why Is It Now OK To Denounce Obama?

Until very recently, the mainstream media agreed with Oprah: only a Grand Kleagle would criticize Obama, let alone portray him as an incompetent. Yet overnight, the mainstream media has joined the GOP. None of the groups involved is opposed to state medical care, so that is not the reason.

Here’s what I think: the warmongers have opened up the sluice gates because Obama is not, for the time being, anyway, obeying them. He did not bomb Syria, and so far, he has not bombed Iran.

What Happened to Iran Talks? Tom Woods Asks RPI's Daniel McAdams

What happened in Geneva on the US/Iran talks and why? Did the Iranians bring a proposal, or were the neocons lying as usual in claiming that this round failed due to Iranian blocking moves? Tom Woods plays devil's advocate on Iran negotiations! And what's next in Syria now that the Saudis decided to start writing more checks to the insurgents?
