Rep. Matt Gaetz Says Take the US Military Out of Somalia

Rep. Matt Gaetz’s (R-FL) resolution (H.Con.Res. 30) that would, pursuant to the War Powers Resolution, require the removal of United States military members from Somalia is on the schedule for consideration in the US House of Representatives this week. The resolution directs the president to remove all US military members from the African country within one year, except for those assigned to protect the US embassy.

Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) is seeking cosigners for a letter to United States Attorney General Merrick Garland calling on him to “uphold the First Amendment’s protections for the freedom of the press by dropping the criminal charges against Australian publisher Julian Assange and withdrawing the American extradition request currently pending with the British government.”

The United States House of Representatives approved on Thursday a resolution (H. Res. 76) that removes Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) from the House’s Committee on Foreign Affairs. The resolution passed by a party-line vote, with Republican members casting all the votes for the resolution and Democratic member casting all the votes cast against it. Rep. David Joyce (R-OH) cast the sole “present” vote.
